Police officers arrested a 41-year-old Palm Desert man for  suspicion of drunken driving after he fled the scene of an accident in the area of Fred Waring Drive and Portolla Avenue in Palm Desert, Sheriff’s officials reported today.

Manuel Hernandez Jr. approached a red light at the intersection of the two roads when he was struck from behind by a Dodge Neon, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.

Rather than stay at the scene, Hernandez chose to flee, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Caroll said.

Witnesses were able to provide a plate for authorities, who later located Hernandez and his vehicle, according to Caroll.

Hernandez was arrested after being located. He did not sustain any injuries, Caroll said.
