Dominick Longo allegedly stole a backpack from an unlocked vehicle and the victim of the theft reported the incident to police around 6:11 a.m., according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.

At the time the incident was first reported, the victim could not provide police with a suspect description. Later, however, the victim was driving in the area of Cook Street and Highway 111 in Palm Desert when he saw Longo carrying his backpack, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Brad Farwell.

Officers from the Palm Desert and Indian Wells police departments responded to the area. When Longo saw officers, he jumped a wall into the Desert Horizons Country Club, Farwell said.

Police then established a perimeter, found Longo and arrested him. The 20-year-old man was arrested for possession of stolen property and violation of probation and was booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio, according to Farwell.

Anyone who may have information on this crime is encouraged to contact Deputy Jones at the Palm Desert Sheriff Station at 760-836-1600.
