Investigators assigned to the city of Eastvale seized approximately 596 marijuana plants around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 7700 Block of Stonegate Drive in Eastvale following an electrical fire that happened Tuesday, a sheriff’s official reported today.
The plants were first discovered after firefighters responded to reports of a fire at the residence around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.
After extinguishing the blaze, the firefighters arranged a standard compliance check of the home and discovered it was unoccupied. During this time the firefighters also discovered a large-scale marijuana cultivation operation and notified members of the Eastvale Police Department, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Manning.
After confirming the existence of the grow, officers secured the area and contacted investigators, Manning said.
In addition to the 596 plants, officers also found 3 1/2 pounds of processed marijuana. Electricity was being bypassed around the meter and this is what sparked the fire, according to fire officials.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Investigator Ted Gonzales at the Jurupa Valley Station at 951-955-2600.
