Hemet Station deputies arrested a man Monday in connection with a convenience store robbery that happened shortly before 2:00 a.m. Sunday, a Sheriff’s official reported today.
James Henry Alkema allegedly entered the business in the 33400 block of Highway 74 in Hemet and robbed the store clerk at gunpoint, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report. It was not immediately clear what Alkema robbed from the store.
After robbing the clerk, Alkema robbed a customer of her car keys and fled the location in her car, Sheriff’s Sgt. W. Clear said.
Investigators reviewing surveillance video of the robbery were able to match the images of the suspect to Alkema, who had an address not far from the convenience store, according to Clear.
Alkema was found hiding behind a shed on his property when deputies arrived at his residence. The victim’s vehicle was later found abandoned in the city of Perris, Clear said.
Alkema was arrested for armed robbery, carjacking and violating his parole.
