A police officer from the La Quinta Police Department arrested a 27-year-old man after the man ran into a nearby residential neighborhood to avoid being arrested for driving unlicensed, a misdemeanor crime, a sheriff’s official reported today.

German Alverdin was stopped around 7:50 a.m. by the officer in the area of Independence Way and Jefferson Street in La Quinta and it was determined that he was driving without a license, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Report.

When the officer went to arrest Alverdin, Alverdin fought with the officer and ran into the nearby Monticello Residential Community along Jefferson Street. The officer called for additional backup from California Highway Patrol, La Quinta Police and Indio Police, Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Pickowitz said.

Officers from the different departments scoured the area and located Alverdin hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence. The subsequently arrested him and booked him at the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
