Two businesses were evacuated Friday in response to the discovery of a suspicious package in the 200 Block of C Street in Perris, a sheriff’s official reported today.

Officers from the Perris Police Department arrived to the area shortly after 9 a.m., just minutes from the time they first received a call, according to a Riverside County Sherriff”s report.

When they arrived, the officers discovered a package that been taped up to the side of the building with electrical tape, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. John Burke

The officers set up a perimeter and evacuated the two closest businesses to the package before calling for assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hazardous Device Team, Burke said.

Burke said the package was determined to be safe by the Hazardous Device Team, but he also encouraged individuals who have information regarding the package to contact the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000.
