Theft of copper to cost Wildomar school $80,000 in damage repairs; police investigate
Officers from the Wildomar Police Department are looking for a suspect of a theft that will cost William Collier Elementary School in Wildomar close to $80,000 to fix and are currently seeking the public’s help to do so, a Sheriff’s official reported today.
Thieves apparently took overflow copper tubing from the air conditioning units in the school, which school officials said they discovered were missing when they were inspecting a leak in the building, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.
The copper tubing was almost 2,000 feet in length. It is believed the tubing was taken over Memorial Day Weekend, Sgt. Steve Brosche said.
The Wildomar Police Department is requesting that anyone with information on the theft contact Detective Cornett at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff Station at 951-245-3343 or at LakeElsinoreStation@RiversideSheriff.org.
