Theft of copper to cost Wildomar school $80,000 in damage repairs; police investigate

Officers from the Wildomar Police Department are looking for a suspect of a theft that will cost William Collier Elementary School in Wildomar close to $80,000 to fix and are currently seeking the public’s help to do so, a Sheriff’s official reported today.

Thieves apparently took overflow copper tubing from the air conditioning units in the school, which school officials said they discovered were missing when they were inspecting a leak in the building, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.

The copper tubing was almost 2,000 feet in length. It is believed the tubing was taken over Memorial Day Weekend, Sgt. Steve Brosche said.
