Jurupa Valley police arrested a 29-year old man in connection with an attempted robbery, following an officer-involved shooting Saturday.

Fontana resident Rolando Soto was found running from the location of an alleged robbery, where a man with his description was accused of attempting to break into a vehicle parked outside of a Denny’s, in the 6800 block of Valley Way, Jurupa Valley. Deputies pursued the man into the backyard of a private residence, where an officer opened fire when the main appeared to reach for a weapon. However, nobody was harmed in the shooting.

Soto has been arrested for robbery and booked into Robert Presley Detention center. The victim of the robbery has suffered a minor injury, and the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave per department policy, according to Corporal Robert Martinez.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept. is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s station at (951) 955-2600, or the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.
